Eight Miles North Ambergris Caye
Belize, Central America

TUTO, my father's nickname, was concieved from 25 acres and 2,000 feet of Caribbean beachfront, located 8 miles north of San Pedro Town on Ambergris Caye, Belize.
Designed to be an eco-friendly, self sufficient, family retreat. The home was constructed with local wood and renewable resources, it is fully insulated and designed for maximum air flow in order to take advantage of the prevailing winds. We currently have a 15,300 liter rain water cistern system, with fresh water wells as pack-up, and use a grey water leaching system for the garden plots. We are in the process of planting coconut, corn, guava, avocado, sea grape, banana, plantian, mango, lime, satsuma (Louisiana mandarin) in areas 250 ft feet from the beach in fertile loamy soil.
We have a populated chicken coop producing eggs and chickens that have helped with our compost pile.
Our artificial reefs 100ft from shore have been populated by many fish species; snapper, mullet, bonefish, barracuda, one nurse shark!
We are trying to repopulated the sea grass areas with conch, awaiting technical help from the Belize Fisheries Dept. Will not hold my breath....
We are currently experimenting growing different grasses for livestock cunsumption, but will have to suppliment with meal. Horses will be my first introduction, a possible revenue stream renting to tourists at neighboring resorts.
We are recycling the driftwood found on the beaches to make fences, wind barriers, planters, and lobster habitats.
We recycle our beer and wine bottles....
